McLennan County's Hot Check Department is a division of the District Attorney’s office that provides services to investigate, collect and prosecute worthless checks at no expense to victims.
This is a free service to victims of hot check crimes. We are able to use the criminal court system to have restitution paid on hot checks, identify and punish check writers, and avert additional crimes.
Our office is able to accept complaints of criminal conduct directly from the victims. Persons accused of hot check writing may face criminal charges of theft. A warrant can be issued for the accused’s arrest, and a case may be filed in court.
