Which Court is the Probate Court?

The County Court of McLennan County is the Probate Court.

  

Does the McLennan County Probate Department have any information regarding Adult Probation or Juvenile Probation?

**No. The Probate Department accepts and files wills, Guardianships and other related Probate Court actions.**

  

What are the Probate fees?

How far back do the Probate Records go?

McLennan County Probate Records date back to 1850.

  

Does the Probate section do name searches?

Yes, but name searches are not done over the phone. They are $5.00 per name, and a date or starting point is required.  Without a date, the search will be done from 1961 through the present. Search requests, with a $5.00 check (including Driver’s License #) made out to McLennan County Clerk and send to:

What type of payments does the County Clerks office accept?

Are wills recorded?

Wills are not recorded, until they are probated.  Most people keep their Will in a safety deposit box or with important papers at home, however, the Original Will may be placed in “Safekeeping” in our office (for a fee).  See fee schedule on the website.

 

How does one obtain a Liquor License?

To begin contact the TABC @ 254-776-7626. In the TABC “Pre-Qualification Packets” the Probate Clerk certifies to what the area is wet for, per the last Local Option Election.  For further information, you can go to http://www.tabc.state.tx.us

 

What type of numbering system do the Probate Records use?

The numbering system for McLennan County Probate Records changed in 1983, from a sequential system (1 through over 36000) to a six-digit system, which repeats each year, beginning with the last two digits of the year.  It changed again in 2000, to include the entire year in the cause number.  A separate numbering system for Guardianships cases was started in October of 1993.
