What’s the difference between a protective order and a restraining order?
Both types of orders can direct the abuser to stay away from certain places, but a protective order is criminally enforceable, meaning that a violation of the order may result in the abuser being arrested and criminally charged. A restraining order must be enforced by a judge, and violation of a restraining order cannot result in an arrest.
